The cockpit of the Spitfire is remarkably compact, it’s controls ergonomically designed with pilot efficiency in mind. The instrument panal is arranged to provode all necessary information at a glance, and the spade Grip (a loop-shaped variant of a joystick) allows for intuitive control.

The Rolls-Royce Merlin 27L liquid cooled V12 engine powered many of the Allies’ best aeroplanes, including the hurricane, Lancaster and later marks of the P-51 Mustang. It evolved in step with the Spitfire: new airframes were built in response to improved engines, and vice-versa. Later variants could produce more than 1,700hp.
